Canadian gold mining company Pacific Rim wants to mine gold in El Salvador but the local population is against it because of the environmental degradation caused by gold mining. Several activists in the Cabanas region have been murdered and many more have received death threats. It is believed that Pacific Rim or the people in favor of gold mining have played a part in these deaths.
